Partnership Opportunities

Strong partnerships between industry and academia make good business sense. Academia is the training ground for the much of the nation's workforce, and the source of new technology intellectual property. At Pratt, we have several formalized partnership programs focused on specific research themes described below. We also welcome the opportunity to build new relationships with industry.

InDuke

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Department of Computer Science have established a joint industry partners program called InDuke that focuses on computing and electrical engineering technologies. This combined program recognizes the collaborations between the two departments and our common industry partners, and underscores the interdisciplinary theme of Duke University.

Duke SmartHouse

The Duke SmartHouse is a 4,500 square foot live-in research laboratory being constructed now by Duke's Pratt School of Engineering. The SmartHouse creates a dynamic "living laboratory" environment that contributes to the innovation and demonstration of future residential building technology. The central concept of this project is our belief that smart homes can improve that quality of life for people of all ages and incomes. We are actively developing flexible relationships with industry to drive technology exploration.

Mechanical Engineering Industry Affiliates Program

Pratt's Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Department has established an industry affiliates program that provides our partners with a direct line of communication with MEMS faculty; a source of faculty expertise for sponsored research or collaborative proposal development, including Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications; priority access to undergraduate and graduate students for internships and employment; and opportunities to solve research and technology problems through creative arrangements such as senior design projects or student group design challenges.
