Al Rossiter Jr. is Pratt’s associate dean for public affairs, working on a part-time basis after retiring in 2001 as assistant vice president in the university’s Office of Public Affairs and director of the Duke News Service. Before joining Duke in 1992, Rossiter spent 32 years with United Press International, rising through the ranks to become its editor and executive vice president, responsible for the company’s worldwide editorial operations. Rossiter was an award-winning science writer for much of his career with UPI and reported on the nation's space program from 1963 to 1987. He was one of the finalists in NASA's aborted Journalist-in-Space program and is listed in Who’s Who in America.

Deborah Hill is the Director of Communications for the Pratt School of Engineering, one of Duke’s two undergraduate schools. She is responsible for media relations and news promotion of Pratt’s research and teaching programs. Previously, she was Communications Program Liaison for the Energy and Environmental Sciences division of the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, covering physics, materials science, geoscience, biotechnology, and chemistry. She is a member of the National Association of Science Writers, and the American Medical Writer’s Association.
